Respite is a vital family preservation and support service
Respite is defined as an "interval of relief", a service that is crucial for families supporting a family member with a developmental disability. Looking Ahead for Families (LAFF) Respite services are provided on a 1:1 basis to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our goal is to provide quality services that enable the family to feel comfortable with taking a break from the highly intensive supervision and care of their of their family member, while honoring their choice and committment to maintain their family member in their home.
All SAS Respite staff receive specialized training in the areas of behavior management and crisis intervention. Assistance is provided with an individual's daily routine ( self-help needs, self-control needs); needs that are typically performed by family members.
Respite services are provided for persons from 0-65 years of age with a primary diagnosis of developmental disability. Services may be funded by San Diego Regional Center for those who qualify. If you are interested in obtaining more information regarding respite services, please contact Christina Ayala, Coordinator of Family Support Services at the SAS office or christina@sassandiego.org
